Let’s begin…

Step 1: Research

Do not waste time reading books after books with no clear strategy or goal in mind! First, you need to do your research. Take the time to find out the following:

  • Which courses and universities require the GAMSAT?
  • The structure of the GAMSAT?
  • Where can I take the GAMSAT?
  • When Can I take the GAMSAT?
  • How the GAMSAT Score calculated?
  • How does each university access the GAMSAT, do they have a cut-off or look at each section?
  • What is the minimum score I need in each section?

Do not move onto step 2 of the GAMSAT preparation strategy until you are fully informed about the exam and have set a minimum target score in each section. Find out how each university uses your GAMSAT score – Free Guide

Step 2: Identify

Recognising your weaknesses is the second part of the strategy, once you’ve completed your research, you should be well informed about the GAMSAT and have a rough idea of the GAMSAT score needed to be invited for an interview by your university choices. You need to score well on all  three sections of the exam, so it is important to identify which of the four sections  you find challenging and deal with it early. The section you identify as your weakest will take priority, this will ultimately define how you prepare for the exam.  Identifying  your weakest section early and making it a priority  is the most effective way to increase your overall GAMSAT score and increase your chances of getting into medical school.

How To Identify Your Weakest Section

Step 3: Prioritise

Most candidates fall into the trap of spending too much time on sections of the exam that they find comfortable, instead of improving their skill they end up boosting only their self-esteem. Determining the order of dealing with the GAMSAT section is important because it defines the amount of practice time you will allocate to each section. You will have to spend most of the time focusing on your weakest section.

Step 4: Improve

Despite what some people might believe, you can significantly improve your performance in each section of the GAMSAT. Like any other test you’ve taken in your life, the right preparation can improve your test result. You have now identified and prioritised the GAMSAT sections, the next phase in the strategy is ‘improve’, you need to improve your weakest section. You must learn exam strategies and fundamentals to answer more questions correctly and save time in the exam. Start by buying helpful GAMSAT books that will help you learn helpful tips and strategies to improve your weakest sections.

Step 5 – Practice, Practice, Practice

This the final step in the GAMSAT preparation. Do not make the common mistake of practising questions after questions straightaway with no plan or strategy; you will most likely end up wasting time and have no idea of the progress you have made. Start drilling on your weakest section then moving on to the next most vulnerable section once you are comfortable. You need to score well on all three sections  of the GAMSAT, most  universities look at candidates scores in each section, not just the total, so do not leave anything to chance, improve on all section but make your weakest section the priority.

Once you have learned some fundamentals and strategies, begin practising questions and putting any exam tips learned into practice, become comfortable using these methods when practising, not every tip recommended will work for everyone,  find what works for you. You can even give yourself the edge over other candidates and book a GAMSAT Course.

I assure you that if you follow these steps you will achieve a far higher GAMSAT score.

Good luck on your GAMSAT preparation and welcome to THE GAMSAT BLOG.
